The Amethyst - In tune with the Divine

The Amethyst,

the most popular and memorable crystal,

not only beautiful in color, but also in its spiritual symbolism.

But what makes it so special?

Well, you are about to find out.

Let's say you enter a small shop full of esoteric and occult objects, you go to a section with stones and you see one, you feel drawn to one. This one gives you a feeling of undisrupted peace, you feel all your stress and anxiety strip away, your mind has been purified and cleared of all negative thoughts. You take the stone, you buy it, and decide to find out what it is. You search for violet-colored quartz and here it is, it is called "Ämethyst".

The name of this crystal is derived from the ancient Greek word améthystos - “not intoxicated”. It is believed that if you drink holding an amethyst in your mouth or if your drink from a cup or goblet made entirely of amethyst you won't get drunk.

There is a myth connected to this, A myth about Dionysus, the Greek god of wine. In this myth, a maiden named Amethyst went to visit the shrine of Artemis, but she crossed paths with the God Dionysus, who was intoxicated with red wine and had suffered a slight, which made him angry and vengeful. When he saw Amethyst he unleashed two guard tigers on her, seeing this Goddess Artemis turned the girl into a clear quartz stone. Witnessing this Dionysus instantly regretted his actions and began crying in remorse, his tears mixed with the wine, which overflowed and fell on the quartz rock and colored it the violet-blue color we associate the Amethyst crystal with today.

This is why now this stone is said to be the stone of sobriety and a clear mind.

The crystal was found often in ancient people's beliefs.

The Ancient Egyptians made amethyst amulets as both a form of prayer and protection against harm.

In Chinese philosophy Feng Shui, the amethyst was believed to enhance the wealth corner focusing on the giving and receiving of material wealth

Even Christians used this stone, as they linked it to the purity of spirit and Christ. Some believed the colors symbolized the wounds and suffering of Christ.
